Your example in the OP is making me a bit curious, I think giving a 3/10 to a game like Shadow of Mordor is extremely disingenuous and I would like to hear the rationale behind it. There are games I didn't like but I thought had some aspects that were great. I disliked games that are quite objectively well-made but that just didn't jive with me. But not sure how I would rate them if I had to do it. I definitely finished many games that I didn't particularly enjoyed. How about you Era? Any games you would rate lower than a 5/10 yet you played them to completion? And why did you decide to finish them? (Counterpoint: I never even started X7 because of how bad it looks, lol). That particular game rates over 50% for me, but it's an example scenario where maybe I would finish a game just to keep up with the series even if I hated it. I love Mega Man, but Mega Man X6 is probably around a 5 or 6 out of 10 if I'm being fair. Sometimes there is a series I love that makes a bad game, and I try to power through it to keep up with the series. I don't like those games but I'd still give them a 5 or more. Even popular games that I don't like, I can at least acknowledge that the game is functional and is fine for passing the time - Bioshock Infinite, Dragon Age Inquisition, etc. There's tons of shovelware and junk indie games, but those generally never even make it onto my radar. There's also the fact that most widely publicized games are at least 'decent'.

Shadow of Mordor for instance was on track to get a 3/10 or so from me, but after a few hours of hate-playing it I was like 'why am I doing this to myself?' and I turned it off. I have certainly played some games I would grade lower than that, but I have never bothered to finish them. I don't think I have completed a single game that I would review lower than 50%.
